Jerome McGann is professor of English emeritus at the University of Virginia. His most recent books are The Poet Edgar Allan Poe: Alien Angel and Culture and Language at Crossed Purposes: The Unsettled Records of American Settlement, the latter published by the University of Chicago Press.
